Meet The FurlifeVets Doctors

Dr. Lauren Abolafia

Dr. Abolafia was born and raised in South Florida and has always had a deep connection to the community and its pets. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. Since graduation, she has been practicing in South Florida, where she continues to provide exceptional care to her patients.

Certified in veterinary acupuncture through the Chi Institute (2016), Dr. Abolafia enjoys incorporating this holistic therapy into her practice when it benefits her patients. Her special interests include surgery and internal medicine, and she is dedicated to providing compassionate, comprehensive care.

Dr. Abolafia joined the FurLife Vets team in October 2025 and is committed to helping pets live healthier, happier lives while supporting the families who love them.

Dr. Chelsea Smasal

Dr. Chelsea Smasal earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Missouri and has dedicated her career to providing compassionate, comprehensive care for animals of all sizes. As an owner of three senior citizen dogs, her professional interests include geriatric care, preventive care, and client education. Dr. Smasal is passionate about strengthening the human–animal bond through high-quality, personalized care.

In her spare time, Dr. Smasal volunteers out in the field aiding with wildlife and conservation medicine. She continues to be inspired by the One Health philosophy, recognizing the vital connections between human, animal, and environmental health.

Dr. Smasal lives locally with her three dogs and one cat, and enjoys scuba diving, beach days, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
